Western New York Rural Area Health Education Center

DUE: 3/24/2025!

About: The Western New York Rural Area Health Education Center (WNY R-AHEC) will be awarding scholarships of $1,000 each to high school seniors entering in an approved healthcare related degree program or certificate program at a local university or community college within Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Steuben, Wayne, Wyoming, or Yates counties. 
 
Application Requirements:
-Completed application
-High school transcript- See Mrs. Youngers or Mrs. Vossler-Lewis
-Acceptance letter from a college or certificate program

-Pursuing a degree in a healthcare related field located in one of the counties above.

Qualifications:

-Attend Letchworth Central School

Hearing Loss Association of America Scholarship

About: The Rochester Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America sponsors a $1,000 scholarship for students with hearing loss who plan on furthering their education.

Application Requirements:
-High school transcript (see Mrs. Vossler-Lewis or Mrs. Youngers)
-Completed application - (also found in google drive)
-Most recent audiogram and audiologist’s report (measured within the last 2 years)
-Two essays 
-Three letters of recommendation - two from high school teachers or Mrs. Vossler-Lewis and the third from an unrelated adult who knows you well (former teacher, coach, religious leader, scout leader, current or former employer)
 
Qualifications:
-Students with hearing loss who plan on attending college or a trade school.

  • High school senior living in a GLOW County. 
  • Plans on pursuing a degree in human services, special education, or other disability related fields.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed application
  • Resume
  • Letter of recommendation from a community leader
  • Letter of recommendation from a high school official (administrator, counselor, athletic director)
  • Acceptance letter from an institution of higher learning
  • Essay (spaced 1.5) on the topic of: “”What has my involvement in the Fire Service taught me?”
  • List of extracurricular activities

Qualifications:

  • Be a member in good standing with FASNY or have a parent/legal guardian who is a member.
  • Attend high school as a senior who is enrolled in the fall 2025 school year at an accredited two or four year institution of higher learning or an accredited technical post-secondary school. 
  • Serve as a current Junior Firefighter, Explorer Scout, or RAM in a group affiliated with a volunteer department or EMS Unit. Children of FASNY members who do not meet this criteria, are also eligible, but must provide a letter from the Chief of the Department describing how they have been involved in the department. 
  • Demonstrate a commitment to both volunteer emergency service and the community.

About: The Buffalo Astronomical Association Rowland A. Rupp Jr. Scholarship encourages study in STEM-related fields by providing financial support to students residing in or attending high school in one of the eight counties of Western New York who have passion for astronomy or an astronomy-related field as they enter post-secondary education.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed application
  • Essay outlining your reason for applying and why you believe you should receive the award
  • Two letters of recommendation from adults who can verify your character and interest in astronomy. Only one letter can be written by a parent or guardian. 
  • Optional: Video or video essay relating to your love of astronomy

Qualifications:

  • Be a high school senior
  • Reside or attend a high school in Western New York
  • Minimum GPA of 85%
  • Demonstrable interest in astronomy or an astronomy-related field. Including: astrophysics, radio astronomy, astrophotography, cosmology

About: Mr. and Mrs. Howard DeNise, longtime agriculturalists and Grange members in western New York have established the DeNise Scholarship Fund, with the New York State Grange as the administrator.

 Qualifications:
-Be related to a firefighter (or fire district commissioner, fire district secretary, fire district treasurer or deputy treasurer, fire district administrator/manager), is a firefighter, or an explorer/junior member of a fire department. 
-Fire district is a current member in good standing with the Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York. 
-Have plans to attend a two or four year college with plans to pursue a community service based career (including, but not limited to: fire service, EMS, nursing, social work, health related services, teaching, paramedic, etc).

About: The Character Council of Western New York, in collaboration with Harvest Time Partners Foundation offers this scholarship to students who live in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans, or Wyoming counties.
