NOTICE OF ANNUAL MEETING, BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION

LETCHWORTH CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to Executive Order 202.26, the regularly scheduled Budget Vote and Election and the Budget Hearing have been adjourned to alternate dates and will follow modified procedures in accordance with that Executive Order.

FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a public hearing of the qualified voters of the Letchworth Central School District, Wyoming & Allegany Counties, Gainesville, New York, will be held in said district on Monday, June 1, 2020 at 7:00 P.M. prevailing time, for the presentation of the budget. This public hearing will be conducted remotely via video conference. The public may access the live feed of the meeting on the District’s website at www.letchworth.k12.ny.us. The budget will be available for review on the District’s website at www.letchworth.k12.ny.us beginning May 26, 2020.

FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that in accordance with Executive Order 202.26, the annual meeting of the qualified voters of the Letchworth Central School District of the Town of Gainesville, Wyoming & Allegany Counties, New York, will be held in said district on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 solely by Absentee Ballot to vote upon the following items:

1. To adopt the annual budget of the School District for the fiscal year 2020-2021 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District.

2. To elect three (3) members of the Board of Education for a three (3) year term commencing July 1, 2020 and expiring on June 30, 2023 and to succeed: Robert Jines, Vanessa Karasiewicz, Claire Smith, whose terms expire on June 30, 2020.

FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required to fund the School District’s budget for 2020-2021, exclusive of public monies, may be obtained by any resident of the District during business hours beginning Monday, May 25, 2020, by contacting the Letchworth Central School District at (585) 493-5450.

FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that in accordance with Executive Order 202.26, self-nomination of candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education must be filed with the Clerk of the District of said School District, no later than 5:00 p.m. Daylight Savings Time on Monday, May 11, 2020. Such self-nominations will not require signatures of the qualified voters of the District. Self-nomination must be directed to the Clerk of the District Tammy Lathan via email (tlathan@letchworth.k12.ny.us) and state the name and residence of the candidate. Candidates must be a qualified voter of the district and must have been a resident in the District for a least one year prior to the election. Candidates will be listed on the ballot in alphabetical order.

FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that in accordance with Executive Order 202.26, such Vote will be conducted solely by absentee ballot. Qualified voters of the District shall be entitled to vote. A qualified voter is one who is (1) a citizen of the United States, (2) eighteen (18) years of age or older, and (3) a resident within the District for a period of thirty (30) days preceding the vote and election. Absentee ballots will be mailed to qualified voters in the District. Any qualified voter of the School District who does not receive an absentee ballot should contact the District Clerk via email (tlathan@letchworth.k12.ny.us).

FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a resident unable to vote because of military service as defined under the Commissioner’s Emergency Regulation Part 122, and by reason of such military service, is absent from the school district in which he or she is qualified to vote on the day of election; or a spouse, parent, child or dependent of a voter as described above, accompanying or being with such voter, if a qualified voter of the State of New York and a resident of the District; may request a military ballot via email to the District Clerk (tlathan@letchworth.k12.ny.us). A military voter may designate a preference to receive a military ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail in their request for such ballot. Such designation shall remain in effect until revoked or changed by the military voter. A list of persons to whom absentee ballots are issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the district via email to the District Clerk (tlathan@letchworth.k12.ny.us) on and after June 3, 2020 weekdays prior to the day set for the annual election on June 9, 2020.

FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to a rule adopted by the Board of Education, in accordance with Sections 2035 and 2008 of the Education Law, any referenda or propositions to amend the budget, otherwise to be submitted for voting at said election, must be filed with the Letchworth Central School Board of Education at the District Office on or before May 11, 20, 2020 at 5:00 PM prevailing time; must be typed or printed in English, must be directed to the Clerk of the School District via email (tlathan@letchworth.k12.ny.us). However, the School Board will not entertain any petition to place before the voters the purpose of which is not within the powers of the voters to determine, or any proposition which fails to include a specific appropriation where the expenditure of monies is required by the proposition.
