The Letchworth Agriculture Department is a multi-faceted and ever evolving space of learning and creating. The Letchworth FFA is an inter-curricular organization that supports and enriches the work done in Agriculture classes. A typical day will find students working in the barn with our herd of livestock, welding or repairing equipment in the shop, growing and caring for plants in the greenhouse, or working in the woods to maintain trails and harvest sap for maple syrup. Our focus is heavy on independent responsibility as well as many other soft and hard skills that will help a student be successful in the workplace, the college setting and beyond.
Students that are involved with the FFA have many opportunities to advance and grow not only their hands-on agricultural skills but also their leadership and communication skills. Every year, students participate in contests at the local level and beyond, testing their skills and learning to network with other people.
The New York State FFA list of available contests that students are able to choose from is available here. Students work very hard to prepare for their chosen contest and learn a great deal through that process.
In totality, it is our mission to teach students how to be kind, caring, responsible and hard-working members of the workforce and society; whether they choose to continue on in the incredible work of agriculture or chase their passions in a different direction.
